How It Works

Life is busy.  People are busy.  Not surprisingly, it’s often hard to meet up with friends as often as you would like.

Sometimes your own schedule is uncertain, causing you to hesitate before extending invitations to others.

Later, when you finally know that you’re free, you may feel that it is too short-notice (or too late in the day) to reach out to others.

And even though you can send an e-mail message at any hour, you’d rather not overload your friends with e-mail messages – particularly when those e-mail messages may be made obsolete by the passage of time or your own changing plans.

So, if you have a particular activity in mind, but have already decided not to contact others by phone or e-mail, is there another option that’s better than nothing?

JoinVite.com offers a new way to let your friends know about your interests and availability (and to let your friends do the same for you) without creating unwanted messages.  Membership is free, and anyone can join.

For each JoinVite invitation that you create, you only need to enter the event-date, the start-time, and some information about the event.  Each invitation will automatically “expire” once the event begins, unless you want it to expire at an earlier date and time.

Although each JoinVite account requires an e-mail address to function, sending an invitation via the JoinVite system is not the same as sending an e-mail message.  Instead, each invitation that you send is saved to the JoinVite system, and will be viewed by your intended recipients only if they log into their JoinVite.com accounts before your invitation expires.  If your plans change, you can also delete the invitation at any time.

You can send a JoinVite invitation to as many friends as you wish.  If you often send invitations to the same group of friends, you can also create pre-defined “Groups” to make it easier to send invitations to particular groups in the future.  For each invitation, you can add or delete additional recipients at any time.

So, what’s the point?
Suppose that you are working late at the office on a Wednesday evening, it’s nearly 8:00pm, and you think that you might want to go out for a hamburger at 9:00pm.  You can log into JoinVite.com and send your friends an invitation to join you for that hamburger:

Event Title:     Burger Night

Date:               Wednesday, December 12th

Start Time:      9:00pm Central

Details:            Working late, and thinking of going out for a burger downtown around 9:00pm.

Call my office at 555-5555 by 8:45pm if you’d like to join in!

In this case, suppose that you set this particular invitation to expire at 8:45pm.

What happens next?

        • From 8:00pm until 8:45pm, your invitation will be visible to each of your intended recipients, but only if they log onto JoinVite.com during that time.
        • Once 8:45pm arrives, your invitation will be automatically deleted from view by any recipient.

As a result, the only people who will see your invitation for this short-notice event are the friends who want to see such invitations (as demonstrated by their logging into their JoinVite accounts during that time).

This also means that your JoinVite invitation “isn’t going to bother anyone.”  Once the invitation expires, no one can see it.

(What if you receive a better offer just five minutes after you send your invitation?  You can simply delete the invitation manually, and no one else will see it.)

The late-night hamburger above is just one example; check out our Ideas page to see even more ways to use JoinVite.com.  Whether you’re seeking a same-day lunch companion or simply floating an idea for an event days or weeks into the future, you can feel free to send JoinVite invitations as often as desired, knowing that these invitations will only be viewed by people interested in receiving them.

Meanwhile, any JoinVite invitations that you receive from your friends will appear in a user-friendly display, automatically sorted by date and time.  Any expired or deleted invitations will be automatically filtered out, leaving you with a continually-updated list of invitations or event-ideas from your friends.  So if at any time you find yourself wondering, “Which of my friends wouldn’t mind receiving a call from me right now?” --then JoinVite.com may have an answer for you.
