Although the JoinVite system has been designed with a number of security features, there are still certain things that you should do to ensure your own safety and the safety of other JoinVite.com members. These steps will also provide a more pleasant experience for all.
When you create and send a JoinVite invitation:
- Safety
- Always let your invitees know how to contact you to accept an invitation.
- Never tell someone to just “meet you there” without contacting you first. You might change your own plans and forget to cancel the JoinVite invitation, and the other person might end up waiting for you alone.
- Courtesy
- If your plans change after you send a JoinVite invitation (and before that invitation expires automatically), try to cancel that invitation to prevent others from attempting to respond to you.
- Although you can always cancel a JoinVite at any time of your choosing, consider giving your invitees some idea of when you need to hear from them. (For example, if you’re seeing a movie at 7:30, you may want to hear from others by 6:45.) This will help prevent situations in which someone intends to respond to you later on, only to discover that your invitation has been cancelled or deleted in the meantime.
- If someone responds to your JoinVite invitation after you’ve already changed your plans, be gracious.
When you receive a JoinVite invitation:
- Safety
- If you don’t recognize the person who sent you a JoinVite invitation, the best course of action is simply not to respond at all. Remember, JoinVite.com isn’t the place to meet new people.
- Always contact the sender before making plans to accept an invitation.
- Never “just show up” to an event, because the sender’s plans may have changed. The sender may not be present at all (unsafe), or may be present with others but not expecting you (awkward).
- Always contact the sender first for permission before you share an invitation with others, because you never know who else the sender has (or has not) invited to a particular event.
- Courtesy
- If you see an invitation that you want to accept, but you need more time before responding, try to log back into JoinVite.com to confirm that the invitation is still active before you respond to it. (Sometimes, the sender’s plans may change suddenly, and the sender will delete a particular JoinVite invitation earlier than you expect.)
- If you intended to accept a particular invitation, but discover that the sender’s plans have changed, be gracious. There’s always next time.
- Of course, if you see an invitation that you’d like to see again, you can always drop the sender a line to let him or her know that you are interested in receiving future invitations.
