FAQ

Why do I have to use my e-mail address?

Your e-mail address is needed as part of the new-member registration process, which requires that you receive and respond to a confirmation message sent to your primary e-mail address.  Your primary e-mail address will also be displayed with each invitation that you send, so that your friends can verify your identify.

Note:  It is possible that some of your friends may send you e-mail messages in response to your invitations.  Because each invitation will display your Primary e-mail address, you may wish to select a personal e-mail address (rather than a business or professional address) as your Primary e-mail address; you can always add the other e-mail addresses to your JoinVite account for the purpose of receiving invitations.

Do I have to use my real name?

That’s up to you.  When you create and send a JoinVite invitation, your selected friends will first see your event title, the event time, and your “Name” entry.  The purpose of including the “Name” is to make it easier for your friends to know who sent them the JoinVite invitation.  If you decide not to list your real name, try choosing a name that your friends will recognize as yours.

When I create or update a JoinVite invitation, will an e-mail message be sent to my friends?

No!  JoinVite.com is designed so that you can create, modify, or delete your JoinVite invitations as often as you wish, all without sending e-mail messages to your friends.  For example, if you feel like a late-night coffee break but don’t want to send e-mail messages to all of your friends, you can send them a JoinVite invitation instead – and once that invitation expires or is deleted, no one will see it.

I’m planning a party.  Should I use JoinVite.com?

Probably not.  As described above, a JoinVite invitation isn’t the same as an e-mail message – so there’s no way of knowing whether your guests will read it.

I have multiple e-mail addresses.  Is there a way for me to ensure that I receive all of the JoinVites invitations that are sent to any of those addresses?

Yes.  Although you will still need to select a Primary e-mail address for account-management purposes (and this Primary e-mail address will be automatically displayed with each JoinVite invitation that you send), you can add the additional addresses to your account, as Additional e-mail addresses.

Why can’t I tell whether my friends have read the JoinVite invitations that I sent them?

In designing the JoinVite.com system, we wanted to make it as easy as possible to send and receive the kinds of invitations that people otherwise might not make by e-mail or telephone.

For example, if you’re planning a late-night coffee break on short notice, you might think twice before contacting your friends by e-mail or telephone.  But with JoinVite.com you can create that invitation and make it visible for your friends, without adding to their e-mail clutter or disturbing them by phone.  If some of your friends log on to their JoinVite.com accounts while your invitation is active, they’ll see the invitation – and nobody else will.

But we also wanted to make it possible for JoinVite.com members to log in as often as they wish, without worrying about other members “seeing” that they have viewed particular invitations but not responded to them.

You should feel free to send as many JoinVite invitations as you wish, because they will only be viewed by the Members who “want” to see them (as demonstrated by their deciding to log into the JoinVite.com website).  And you should also feel free to log into the JoinVite.com website as often as you wish, without worrying about other Members monitoring your activity.

If I sent a JoinVite invitation for a particular date and time, and someone else sends me a JoinVite invitation for an event that overlaps with that time, does the JoinVite.com system alert me to the potential conflict?

No. The JoinVite.com system leaves it up to you to resolve any time conflicts.  However, we’ve listed the “Invitations You Sent” and “Invitations You Received” on the same screen, to make it easier for you to spot any conflicts.  (After all, if you receive a JoinVite invitation that you like better than the plans that you had already made for the same time, you might want to cancel your own JoinVite invitation and accept the other one.)  But remember that deleting a JoinVite invitation that you created will not send any notification to other Members.  If another Member has already responded to you and made plans with you, you will need to notify them personally (by e-mail, phone, or otherwise) if your own plans have changed.
